How to make a GenkiGoth:

Take one part angry, scary black guy to one part multi-colored hyper latina. shake vigorously untill the mixture is a consistency of a brooding glowstick

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know, I know. I've moved and in school, and I've got other things to do than to be complaining and whining (which I've been doing alot as of late) about not going to MegaCon. It's JUST a convention. And it is. But I think that con season means alot more to me than it should/

Back in Puerto Rico I they never had anything like this. There was this one little nook in a a bulding called Next Level that me and ~alex-olmeda used to frequent. We would save our lunch money and rent bootlegged anime videos that the owner bought in NY's Chinatown almost every weekend. Going from that to seeing this ginormous place that had rooms upon rooms of the stuff floored me. And it still does.

At the same time though, it's not even the stuff that's there that makes me like cons so much. It's all the things that I've done, the friends that I've made and continue to meet there that makes con season so great. Some people in particular I never see during the year and those 3 days are the only times I get to see them and play catch up.

My first MegaCon I was taken aback by how social and friendly most of the people were. One guy that i had spoken to while he was waiting for a tournament got a little too friendly though; he tried to kiss me on the lips while I tried to part ways. I pushed him so hard that I almost knocked him off the 3rd floor balcony.

There's also the several conventions I've attended with Radio Sci-fi and Ravenloches entertainment productions. I was SO excited when Joey emailed me and asked if I could help them during the convention. At that time I was just a listener for RSF and the fact that I was able to help out made me feel so incredibly special it's not even funny, lol. ~AnaAesthetic was debuting her infamous Lu-lu costume that I've yet to see anyone top. We crammed ourselves in a bathroom stall as we tried to arrange all those layers of that costume on her. I felt bad, because by the end of the day she had the really bad scratches on her legs because of the dress on her legs, but...damn, the costume was bad ass, LMAO!

Joey also took me around the dealer's room and introduced me to lots of different comic companies asking them if they had time to see my artwork. I got ALOT of feedback, and there's one guy in particular that worked for CrossGen at one time (I SO wish I could remember his name) that wrote down some books he suggested I buy. I still have the sheet of paper. I got a lot of useful, constructive information that I've tried to use since then. Someone else told me that my inking was too thin and uniform and he suggested I try using variance in my linework and gave me some examples (which I kept as well) I've been in love with inking ever since. It's now my FAVORITE part of the drawing process.

I still have a little slip of paper that =SpookyChan was handing out trying to sport her comic the Divine Comedy. I think we were still classmates at the time. She was dressed as Witch Hunter Robin. OMG. It's so amazing to see how much you've grown. That's awesome. ^____^

I don't know why, but RSF continued to let me hang out with them and attend radio showings and kept asking me to help them for conventions. On one of their final years, we started trying to sell art and clothing accessories and gave me a little spot where I can try and sell my stuff as well. I can't remember how that turned out though. I know ~AnaAesthetic sold her Sailor Moon outfit though (which, BTW there's a piece missing from it that I think Dee Jay still has. It's the little moon emblem in front of the bow)

Throughout the years I've evolved from a regular con-coer, to a volunteer gopher, to being part of the convention events myself. Ok, so the artist alley isn't a huge thing, but for me it is, lol! I love the mix of people there and seeing what everyone has to sell. Plushies, costume accessories, d20 and other rpg jewelry, T-shirts, bags and so much more. It was creepy the 1st time we were selling completely by ourselves. And we always just seem to break even, but the fact that people even see our art as something worth buying just puts us on cloud nine.

The last convention in Orlando, Dee Jay proposed to me. In front of family, friends I've known for years, people I've just met, and complete strangers he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. When I saw the ring, the first thing out of my mouth was "holy shit" (you can even almost hear it...in fact here's the [link])

Going to conventions are like going to a really big family reunion/black market, LMAO. I'm always reuniting with old family and meeting new extensions of family as well. I can't tell you how happy I am that Dee Jay loves conventions as much as I do. It's something special to me and I like to share that feeling with anyone willing. I think that's why I'm so bummed that I can't go. I'm missing the chance to see my family. I'm missing out on seeing new people. And for the introverted extrovert like me, it's like...damn.

Only upside to this though is that we're missing out because of something important. Hopefully in the next coming years we'll be able to produce more stuff that's worth showing off. Maybe in the future we'll be able to attend cons and host panels or have Q&A's or something. I would love to have our studio up and running and show off animations that we not only completed, but sold and published comic work and stuff like that as well. omg...that'd be awesome.

I can't say I know exactly what you're both going through because I live here and always have. I've only seen other people leave because I haven't yet. So I can only imagine how hard it must be and I'm sure a lot of people miss seeing you there. I could tell just by looking at both of your faces, yesterday, how you felt.

Who knows? In another two years when you go back, you might be MegaCon legends (if you aren't already?!). :omg: I'll miss you guys then, though.

BTW...
That proposal kicked butt. :happycry:

I think I'm making more of a big deal of it than Dee Jay is. I hate it when he just thinks I'm horribly homesick and can't be without people. It's not that I NEED to be home, it's just that I guess I miss the familiar.

It would be nice to be megacon legends in FL though. Wishful thinking I know, lol but that'd still be awesome, lmao!

I'm sure he doesn't "hate it" when you're homesick. I'm sure he misses it, too. Homesickness isn't something to be embarrassed of. There's a reason the word exists, after all!

As for being legends... you never know. =)

Oops. You hate it, he doesn't... but you get what I mean. ^^;

Aawww, I got all emotional all over again while seeing that video... ;__;
OMG you guys are so cute! xD
I'm really sad you didn't come to Mega this year...
I was there yesterday, and I was asking myself in my head if I would be lucky enough to run into you >.<;;
I didn't know if you were planning to come and stay all three days, since now you live so far, or if you weren't coming at all... =/
But! As much as I miss you, I guess I'll have to wait a little more T.T
The next cons are... Jacon (may, I think?), AFO (summer? august?), and there's Screamfest in October, and god knows when MetroCon in Tampa is...
But, if there's any chance of you attending one of those, PLEEEASE let me know! D:
Then I'll make sure I'm there! <3

And on another note, in my opinion, MegaCon this year wasn't THAT awesome. I mean, it's still a con, so it was pretty good, but... it's getting bigger by the year, the people are getting stupider (before the rave, the crowd was going so wild, we were threatened to be thrown out of the convention center), and yeah...

~next thing you know, you see Belle passing out fliers around the con with Miriam and Dee Jay's DA on it~

I know, I was really trying to make it too. It's just that homework and school work take up way too much time and I couldn't run the risk of missing out on that much homework time. Man, ain't that pathetic? This month put me in a tough spot too, because I had the option to go to Wrestlmania that's going to be in Orlando March 30 I believe and I couldn't go to one and not the other, so I negged on both.

So far as future cons go, I want to say yes to most of them but I don't want to set anything in stone. Jacon is may 16-18. Classes for me end in may so I might be able to attend that one. Metrocon is July 18-20. I've yet to go to one. I'd love to though, just for some reason it never seems to work out. AFO is August 8-10. As of this moment, we're definitely making it to AFO. It's our favorite convention and especially because of last year, this one means alot to us. So at the very least, we'll see you at that one!

I can't believe they were going to throw people out. I mean, it takes a few pains in the asses to ruin it for everyone. Grrrrr....

*hugs* you rock! lol!

Awesome! So at least for AFO I'll put my hopes up! =D

Don't get too sad because you missed Mega, though. You really didn't miss out on much, from what I've seen.

I'm gonna try and see if I can get a hotel room for AFO, too, so if you find a cheap one, would you tell me about it too?

About Metro, that's my least favorite convention. I love it for the fact we get to do a road trip, and it's always amazing to go on a road trip with all of your friends, and do crazy things like have 12 plus people in a single hotel room for all three days, and walk nineteen blocks to get to the Tampa Convention Center...
But the con in itself is really not that great. It's the biggest con I've seen so far, twice the size of Mega, and it's almost impossible to find anyone you know there, so you gotta stick to the group, and since there's so many people, chances of finding some very rude ones are high. =/
Some people there are real jerks! I keep asking myself why people go to anime cons if they don't even know what it's about, and they walk around calling us freaks for dressing up and doing what we do... ><;;

But yeah. That's all just my opinion, though xD
